A baseline schedule gets rejected far more often for missing basics than for a bad sequence. Whether you work in Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project, reviewers check the same things. Here is the checklist our CPM scheduling team follows.
Complete logic ties
Every activity except the first and last needs a predecessor and a successor. Open ends hide the real critical path and are the number one reason a schedule is sent back.
Correct calendars and constraints
Use working calendars that reflect weekends, holidays and weather days. Keep hard constraints to a minimum. Too many of them make the float meaningless.
Activity coding that matches the contract
- Area or building codes for phased work
- CSI or trade codes that line up with your cost estimate
- Responsibility codes for each subcontractor
When your schedule codes match your estimate, cost loading becomes simple. That is why we build schedules alongside our construction estimating work.
A clear narrative
The narrative explains the sequence, the critical path and your assumptions. Keep it short and direct. Need help? Our Primavera scheduling and MS Project scheduling services include the narrative.
